Woke Up in Paris Yesterday...

June 01, 2012

...end edited song lyrics. Woke up on my 21st birthday in Paris. WOOOO. We survived the overnight train, originally supposed to be delayed in Switzerland for four hours due to an accident, but instead on time. We were a little anxious about our passports, which were literally returned right before we had to get off the train. Whew!

We took a cab to the hotel and freshened up. We did some planning then decided we were too tired to go explore right then, so we napped for a bit. Then we headed to the Eiffel Tower. Not surprisingly, it was packed. The atmosphere and energy was great. There were street performers and even a student group protesting, as I understood from a French vendor, the imposed difficulties on Canadian students from studying abroad.. or something to that effect. We hung around for a while, ate paninis and then once it started getting dark (which wasn't until almost 10 PM) we hopped onto a boat to take a cruise down the Seine River. Seeing Paris from the Seine is a must when going to Paris - it was great. The city really comes alive at night along the banks.

By the time we got back it was dark enough that they had lit the Tower. We waited for the awe-inspiring sparkle that happens on the hour. It was just as magical as I remember it from my last trip. Everybody else really enjoyed it too!

Me, Mom and Dad as She Sparkles

We planned to hit the rest of the sights the next day...
